Yosemite Five Day Tour from San Francisco - Tour Only

Yosemite Five Day Tour - Tour Only

  • What do I need to bring?

    • Sturdy shoes
    • Camera
    • Extra spending money for meals
    • Water bottle
    • Hat (if necessary)
    • Warm clothes and a waterproof jacket during the winter months
    • Sunscreen (if necessary)
    • Umbrella (if necessary)
  • What should I wear?

We recommend comfortable walking shoes, such as shoes or boots with rubber soles and treads. Hiking sandals (rather than beach sandals) can be worn on the Total Yosemite Experience during the summer months. High heels, flip-flops, and open-toe shoes are not recommended. Temperatures vary depending on the season in Yosemite therefore we advise people to wear layered clothing.

  • What do I have to know about the Giant Sequoias hike?

We are the only tour company that goes to the Giant Sequoias Grove on the Yosemite tour, but the hike is dependent on trail and weather conditions. It is usually available from April to October only. If you choose not to participate in the hike, then you would have to stay at the bottom of the trail as you wait for the rest of the group to return from the hike. The hike is about 2 miles round-trip (about 30 minutes round-trip). Paved trail with 400 ft incline.

  • What languages are available for this tour?

The tour is narrated in English but we offer complimentary audio guides in 8 languages: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Korean, Mandarin, Japanese, and Portuguese. If an audio tour is required, please specify the languages needed in the comments section on the reservation page.

  • What type of vehicle do you use?

The Total Yosemite Experience Tour is a smaller group tour. We use either a Minibus or 15 seat Passenger Van. This tour also includes a hike to the Giant Sequoias Trees (weather permitting). The Yosemite Bus Tour operates in a large Motor Coach with more people and they do not visit the Giant Sequoia Grove on the bus tour.

  • How can I travel around the park during my free time?

Yosemite National Park has a free, year-round Yosemite Valley Shuttle with stops at most major sights of interest and some trailheads. You can also take YARTS (Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System) for a fee if you wish to travel outside the park to the surrounding area. Depending on how much free time you have, there might not be time enough to take the bus.

  • Do I have to call to reconfirm my pick up time for the return trip?

Yes, we request that you call our toll free number at 1-800-231-3752 the morning of your return to confirm your pickup time and location inside Yosemite National Park.

  • What is the average temperature in Yosemite?

Yosemite weather varies depending on the season. SUMMER MONTHS (JUNE, JULY, AUGUST) Average High temperature: 87°F / 31°C - Average Low temperature: 51°F / 10°C, WINTER MONTHS (DECEMBER, JANUARY, FEBRUARY) Average High temperature: 53°F / 12°C - Average Low temperature: 28°F / -2°C

  • Are there any meals included? If not, where can we buy lunch on the tour?

Meals are not included on this tour. We stop on the way to Yosemite where you can buy a snack or meal to take with you. There are also restaurants and a deli in Yosemite Valley where you can purchase lunch and snacks.

  • Are we allowed to take food and beverages into Yosemite National Park?

Yes, you can bring your own food and drinks with you. You will also be able to purchase food and drinks on the way to Yosemite or inside Yosemite National Park.

  • Is there a place where we can cook our own food?

No, unfortunately there is no kitchen nor is there a outdoor fire or grill.

  • Can I use my annual pass for the United States National Parks to enter the Yosemite for free?

Unfortunately you cannot use your pass on this tour. The entrance price for the Yosemite National Park is based on the vehicle used and not on the number of individuals in the vehicle. Therefore the $10 fee will be added to the cost of the tour when you pay.

  • Where and when are we dropped off on the first day of your Yosemite overnight tour?

You will be dropped off around lunch time close to the Yosemite Lodge at the Falls. You will need to make your own way to your accommodation. Yosemite National Park has a free, year-round Yosemite Valley Shuttle with stops at most major sights of interest and some trailheads. You can also take YARTS (Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System) for a fee if you wish to travel outside the park to the surrounding area.

  • What is a double occupancy?

Double occupancy means two people per room. For example, the price quoted is per person, so "$200 double occupancy" means two people will pay $400 total. If you are going alone, you will pay a different rate for single occupancy.

  • How can we get to Yosemite View Lodge from Yosemite National Park?

The public transportation system YARTS will get you from inside the park to the Yosemite View Lodge.

  • Will I be sharing my tent during my overnight stay in Yosemite?

No, you will have your own cabin but you will have a shared bathroom.

  • How many people are staying in the same dorm at the Bug Lodge?

Rooms can accommodate about 6 to 12 occupants.

  • How much luggage am I allowed to bring on my overnight tour?

Customers are allowed up to 2 luggage items (1 carry-on & 1 personal item) free of charge. Each additional item will incur a $25 excess luggage fee. Maximum dimensions are 24” x 16” x 10” (60cm x 40cm x 58 cm). Any Oversize luggage larger than the maximum size 24x16x10 inches, (or 60 x 40 x 25 cm) is $50 regardless of personal items brought on board. Passengers must advise us of oversize luggage 48 hours prior to departure in order to guarantee the accommodation of the luggage on the vehicle. (Note: If you are not staying at one of the hotels within Yosemite Valley, please only bring with you what you can easily carry as there are limited (or no) storage options. You may store your luggage at the Extranomical office during your stay in Yosemite if necessary).

This is for the Yosemite Five-Day tour only - no accommodations are provided. Make your own overnight arrangements, or reserve a campsite. (Tour vehicle has limited space for luggage, so try to keep it small!) For independent travelers or campers, the tour includes San Francisco Hotel pick-up, transportation to Yosemite National Park, Yosemite Valley Tour and drop off at Yosemite Lodge, where you get to free time inside the Park. Your second, third and fourth days are all yours, so you’ll be able to do some exploring that you wouldn't have had time for on a 2-day  or 3-day tour. On the fifth day, you will meet another tour group, and finish the day with them and return to San Francisco.

The Five Day Yosemite National Park tour gives you 3 full uninterrupted days you don’t get with the 1- or 2-day tour. Do some all-day hiking and climb to the top of Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, Nevada Falls, or Vernal Falls. Mirror Lake is just a short uphill walk where you can take it easy and walk around the beautiful valley floor, and visit Majestic Yosemite Hotel (previously the Ahwahnee Hotel). You can also take a ranger-guided Valley Tram tour or go rafting in the Merced River (fare extra and seasonal). For a longer day trip, take the bus up to Glacier Point and walk all the way down to the valley floor or the Mariposa Grove (fare extra and seasonal).

In winter, it is still a great time to visit. Some locations are inaccessible, but the scenery is completely different – the Valley itself is a winter waterfall wonderland. For someone willing to bundle up and wear the right shoes, and get some exercise, you will greatly rewarded, and there are times when you might feel you have the place to yourself.

Note: If you are not staying at one of the hotels within Yosemite Valley, please only bring with you what you can easily carry as there are limited (or no) storage options. You may store your luggage at the Extranomical office during your stay in Yosemite, if necessary.

ALERT FOR YOSEMITE TOUR DATES BEFORE JUNE 1, 2017: A road closure of Hwy 120 has made road to Giant Sequoias inaccessible from the valley. We expect the road to be repaired soon. Please contact guest services for updates.
