  • What do I need to bring?

    • Park entrance fee
    • Valid ID
    • Camera
    • Money for additional wine tasting at the Sonoma Plaza
    • Sunscreen during summer months
    • Bottled water
    • Money for lunch
    • Winter clothes during the winter months
    • Solid shoes
  • What should I wear?

We recommend comfortable walking shoes, such as shoes or boots with rubber soles and treads. Hiking sandals (rather than beach sandals) can be worn on the Redwoods & Wine Country Escape during the summer months. High heels, flip-flops, and open-toe shoes are not recommended.

  • Is the Muir Woods entrance fee included? And how long do we spend inside Muir Woods?

The tour price does not include the Muir Woods entrance fee, which is $10 per person (based on 2016) and must be paid when you reach the entrance of the park. You have about an hour on your own inside the Muir Woods National Monument.

  • Which wineries are we going to visit?

On our Redwoods & Wine Country Escape tour we visit 3 wineries, located in Sonoma Valley and Napa Valley. Each winery stop ranges from 30-45 minutes. We’ve narrowed the list of winery stops to those that offer the best California Wine Country experience for our clientele. We have preferred partner wineries that we like to visit but the wineries may depend on the day. Occasionally, a winery on our tour may be closed for a private event, so our tour guides may change the itinerary on the day of the trip.

  • Does this tour go to Napa?

Yes, we do. The itinerary of visiting Napa Valley AND Sonoma Valley in combination with Muir Woods National Monument is what makes this tour unique.

  • Are wine tasting included and how much money do I need for the additional wine tastings in Sonoma Plaza?

Yes, all wine tasting fees at the 3 winery stops are included on this tour. If you want to join additional wine tasting, please feel free to do that. The wine tasting fees range from $5 to $20.

  • What languages are available for this tour?

The tour is narrated in English but we offer complimentary audio guides in 8 languages: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Korean, Mandarin, Japanese, and Portuguese. If an audio tour is required, please specify the languages needed in the comments section on the reservation page.

  • Is this tour suitable for children?

Yes, children of all ages are welcome on the tour though drinking alcohol is not permitted for those under the age of 21. Please bring a valid photo ID.

  • Do we stop at Golden Gate Bridge?

Yes, there will be about 15-minutes for a photo stop opportunity at the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.

  • Can we buy food or do we have to bring our own lunch?

You are more than welcome to bring a bagged lunch though you will have time to pick up lunch or sit down at a casual eatery at the Historic Sonoma Plaza.

  • What is the advantage of this combination tour compared to the tours separately?

The Redwoods & Wine Country Escape combines two of California's top attractions. You get the chance to see the Giant Redwood trees and you will join several wine tastings in both Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley - all in just one day. There is also a huge saving by booking this combination tour rather than booking both trips separately.

They offer delicious Rhone varietal wines and classic California Wine Country style. Mayo Family Winery was founded in 1993 and the family believes that single vineyards produce the highest quality and enjoyable wines.

Discover our Redwoods & Wine Country Tour - We maximize the time you spend in Muir Woods National Monument and allow guests to enjoy the trails before the crowds. Explore the Coastal Redwood Sequoia groves in Muir Woods, home to the tallest tree species in the world. You’ll spend an hour enjoying California’s native flora and fauna, taking in giant ferns, moss-lined creeks, fresh bay leaf scented air from the many Laurel trees and squirrels, blue jays and deer if you’re lucky.

A brief drive North and you’ll find yourself in California’s renowned Wine Country. Spend a relaxing afternoon wine tasting, strolling the vineyards and learning about the practice of winemaking. Our Wine Country tour makes 4 tasting stops: 3 wineries and 1 at the historic Sonoma or Healdsburg Plaza spending 45 minutes to 1 hour at each location. We are the only Muir Woods and Wine Country tour that visits both Napa Valley & Sonoma wineries! All our wine tasting is complimentary and you’ll be able to taste a wide variety of amazing wines. The Wine Country plaza stop lasts a couple hours, so you’ll have time to grab a bite to eat and visit a few more tasting rooms located around the plaza. We’ll provide you with a map of the plaza and must-see local shops and tasting rooms to maximize your time.

On the journey back to San Francisco we’ll make one last stop at a scenic look-out point with sweeping views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco bay and city skyline, Alcatraz and the Bay Bridge.

Redwoods and Wine Country Escape℠
– Linda R. on 04/21/2016

Muir Woods was absolutely stunning! Phil, our driver, was able to get us to Muir before park opened to public crowds which meant - free admission and peaceful meandering in the woods. The accompanying wine tour was well orchestrated with 3 wineries both in Napa and Sonoma. Mid-day lunch in Sonomoa was perfect- lots of good recommendations from Phil! Overall, excellent value for the money- small tour van was comfortable and have I noted that Phil added wonderful color commentary, music and fun to the full day's events! Will definitely use Extanomical for future trips!

Everything was awesome and very informative. Anthony was a great tour guide. We would definitely use your company again.
– Jolene M. on 04/06/2016

This tour was amazing and worth every penny! Anthony was the best tour guide. He made me laugh a lot which I hadn't done in awhile. I came on this trip as a distraction because I am dealing with the loss of my son. I had a really good time. Muir Woods was cleansing and amazingly beautiful. Anthony got us there before the big crowds and before the $10 park entrance fee. Wine tasting was wonderful. All 3 wineries were great, but we especially liked Mayo and Cline Cellars. Thank you for providing a lovely distraction to my grief. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking to spend a day outside of San Francisco.
– Marina D. on 03/15/2016

despite the weather, it was a very nice and educational trip
– Barbara T. on 03/12/2016

This was a wonderful experience and we really enjoyed Pam. She was a very safe driver and entertaining and informative. It would have been great to have had a little more time at Muir Woods. I would probably have picked up a little souvenir in the gift shop if I would have had an extra 15 minutes. I think we got off schedule because there were so many groups to pick up. Also, the tastings and lunch were a bit hurried, but I wouldn't want to miss any of the stops, so really no solution except having smaller tour groups. I also thought we might get to stand on GG instead of observing from overlook point. Overall, a grand tour. No regrets.
– Mike R. on 02/20/2016

We had a great time! Anthony was our guide, and everyone loved him. This trip was the hi-light of our San Francisco excursion. Muir Woods is beautiful!
– Tina s. on 02/15/2016

The perfect combo at a great price. We stayed in fishermans wharf, which was the perfect location to get around. We did not rent a car, I don't know how people drive on those hills, but we wanted to go to Muir Woods and wine country for some tastings. This was a great combo. Muir Woods for about and hour to walk around and see the giant redwoods and then 3 different small wineries. Stopped for lunch in between and right before heading back over the golden gate we turned off to go up to a viewing peek. The pictures don't do it justice. Such a great day. Our guide was funny and friendly and a great driver around those hills.
– Jenny L. on 02/09/2016

It was a great day out with a perfectly paced tour. This was largely due to our tour guide Anthony, being very informative with had a great sense of humour. I would recommend Extranomical tours to anyone, especially if Anthony was the tour leader.
– Julia V. on 02/02/2016

Phil was absolutely fantastic. He was a great tour guide, plus had a lot of local knowledge and insight into the city that made the rest of our stay better than if we had not done our Extranomical tour. I can't recommend him enough, he went above and beyond!
