On day one of this Alcatraz tour package, experience an old-growth coastal redwood forest and California’s wine country. The next day, take the infamous Alcatraz Island tour. The package pairs our award-winning Redwoods and Wine Country tour with the most popular San Francisco attraction—Alcatraz Island prison. Daily departures. All tasting fees included.
Day 1: Redwoods and Wine Country Tour
Start your Redwoods and Wine Country tour by visiting an old-growth California Redwoods forest in Muir Woods National Monument (or in another park) ahead of the crowds. Spot morning fog lifting from the Coastal Redwood canopy that soars for hundreds of feet above your head. Stroll along pristine nature trails and look out for native clover, coastal ferns, squirrels, foxes, and even deer.
Next, your expert wine guide will lead you to sip the good life on this Sonoma Valley and Napa Valley tour. The three wineries you visit will be delightful in their own unique ways. At each exclusively arranged experience, you’ll enjoy a friendly wine country welcome and breathtaking scenery while learning the stories behind the wineries.
The wines you enjoy will have been selected by the winemakers themselves. Be ready to add to your wine cellar as most of the wines are not sold in retail stores. If you would like to learn more about the wineries we visit on Extranomical wine country tours click here.
Spend your lunch break exploring Sonoma Plaza’s many restaurants, boutique shops, and wine tasting rooms. Upgrade your California wine country tour with a private food and wine pairing experience where you’ll be treated to California cuisine along with a collection of local wines. Check out the seasonally updated menu.
The afternoon potion of your redwoods and wine country tour will include exploring Napa Valley and Instagram-worthy experiences at two more boutique wineries. Get to know the winemakers and unique features of their wine offerings.
On the journey back to San Francisco we’ll make one final stop at a scenic look-out point with sweeping views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Headlands, San Francisco skyline and Alcatraz Island. Take some fabulous photos while reflecting upon the amazing day that you have had!
Exact destinations and itinerary may differ due to weather, road conditions, and the guide’s discretion.
For international guests, please be aware that the legal drinking age in the United States is 21 years of age.
For the rare event that commercial parking is not available at Muir Woods, we reserve the right to arrange an alternative destination for experiencing Coast Redwoods during this tour.
Day 2: Alcatraz Tour
Make your way to Pier 33 where you’ll board the ferry to start your Alcatraz Island tour! Listen to an audio presentation featuring recordings of inmates and guards that worked and inhabited the island. Our San Francisco Alcatraz day tours give you as much time possible to roam and explore this historic island prison.

Winter clothes during the winter months
Comfortable walking shoes
We recommend comfortable walking shoes, such as shoes or boots with rubber soles and treads. Hiking sandals (rather than beach sandals) can be worn on the Redwoods & Wine Country Tour during the summer months. High heels, flip-flops, and open-toe shoes are not recommended.
It is a good idea to bring a warm jacket for the ferry ride out to Alcatraz, it gets chilly on the Bay!
Unless otherwise stated, the tour price does not include the Muir Woods entrance fee, which is $15 per person (based on 2019) and must be paid when you reach the entrance of the park. You have about an hour on your own inside the Muir Woods National Monument.
On our Redwoods & Wine Country tour we visit 3 wineries, located in Sonoma Valley and Napa Valley. Each winery stop ranges from 40-45 minutes. We’ve narrowed the list of winery stops to those that offer the best California Wine Country experience for our clientele. We have preferred partner wineries that we like to visit but the wineries may depend on the day. Occasionally, a winery on our tour may be closed for a private event, so our tour guides may change the itinerary on the day of the trip.
