    • Money for additional wine tastings
    • Valid photo ID
    • Comfortable shoes for walking
    • Extra spending money for lunch, snacks, souvenirs, etc.
    • A light jacket (easily removable) in case of wind
    • Camera (optional)
    • Snacks (optional)
    • Warm clothes and a waterproof jacket (during the winter months)
    • Hat and sunscreen (during the summer months)
  • How long is the tour?

This tour takes about 9 hours.

  • What should I wear?

Temperatures vary depending on the season and time of day in, so we recommend that you wear layered clothing in case of unexpectedly climbing or falling temperatures. Please note that the temperatures in Napa and Sonoma might be different to San Francisco. We recommend checking the weather forecast but, generally, we do not recommend wearing shorts or sleeveless shirts in the winter. However, we realize that everyone is acclimated to different weather and thus trust you to make your own judgement. For footwear, we recommend comfortable shoes, such as regular tennis shoes, sneakers, flats, loafers, boots, etc. High heels, beach flip-flops, and other open-toed shoes are not recommended.

  • Is lunch included in the Wine Lovers Tour and where are we going to have lunch?

Lunch is included with the price of this tour! We work with our local Sonoma and Napa caterers to provide you a fresh meal and a great experience while you enjoy your carefully-curated wines. You will have lunch at one of the wineries we visit during the tour.

  • Are wine tasting fees included in the Wine Lovers Tour? If no, how much money do we need for wine tasting?

We visit 4 wineries on this tour. Of those 4, 2 boutique wine tastings and picnic lunch are included in the price. Additional wine tasting fees vary from $20 to $30 per person per winery, depending on wineries chosen. Some wineries offer complimentary tasting and others may charge upwards of $35 per person.

  • Is this tour offered in other languages?

This tour is only offered in English. If needed, we can organize a private tour in other languages. Please also take a look at our Redwoods and Wine Country Escape Tour - it is a great deal and includes complimentary audio tours in 8 different languages.

  • Is it a suitable tour for children?

No, it is not. Children are not allowed on this tour. Every member of your party will need a valid photo ID. Please note: the minimum drinking age in the USA is 21 years old. If any members of your group are under 21 you must let us know in advance so that we can provide accurate numbers to our wineries.

  • What type of vehicle do you use?

We use our luxury vehicle. It is a 13-passenger van with premium captain seats, additional rear A/C for extra comfort, extra head room, and a sound system.

  • What and how many wineries are we going to visit?

The tour visits 4 wineries. 2 wineries are pre-selected and wine tasting fees are included for them. People taking the tour can make request for the last 2 wineries to visit. The tasting fees for the wineries selected by those on the tour is not included in the price. If those on board don't have any particular requests, the tour guide will recommend a variety of wonderful wineries.

  • Does the tour go to both Napa and Sonoma?

Yes, the tour visits both Valleys.

  • What happens if I don’t have or forgot to bring a valid ID? Is it still possible to participate in the wine tasting?

In the U.S. it is important to have a valid ID if you want to consume alcohol. If you forget to bring your valid ID, you will not be allowed for wine tasting.

  • Does this tour run every day?

Like all our group tours, a minimum number of participants are required before the tour can be confirmed. At this time, our online reservation system does not reflect current availability. If you would like to know if your desired tour has seats available, please call our office at 1-866-231-3752 (toll free from the USA) or 1-415-357-0700.

  • Do I have to call to reconfirm my tour?

Yes, we request that you reach out to us at least a day in advance to confirm your tour and pick up details. You can contact us via our live chat function or by calling our office at 1-866-231-3752 (toll free from the USA) or +1-415-357-0700 (internationally) during office hours. You can call us from your hotel’s phone if you do not have a working mobile phone while you are in the area.

Love fine wine? You’ll experience some of the world’s finest on our wine-tasting tour of Napa and Sonoma Valley wineries. Not a wine expert? Not to worry! You’ll have a great time, meet some really cool people, see amazing sights and learn all about fruits of the vine that have made valleys north of San Francisco so famous.

No crowded tour-bus hassles here! You’ll join 6-12 guests and one of our experienced (and hilarious) Expedition Leaders in a tour of four wineries (wine tasting at two are included). All along the way, your guide’s wonderful tales of wine country – its fascinating history and rich culture – will have you smiling from ear to ear as you roll along in our luxury coach. And you’ll love this: We pick you up right at your hotel in downtown San Francisco. (Good morning! Climb aboard!)

You’ll leave the bustle of The City behind as you cross the Golden Gate Bridge or Bay Bridge heading for wine country.  As you roll through wine country, you’ll experience the many microclimates and see the soil types that combine to produce some of the world’s best winemaking grapes – Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc. (Oh my, I’m thirsty already!)

Along the way, keep your eyes open for endangered critters that make a home in the area, especially near the Napa-Sonoma Marsh. You may see a California brown pelican or a black rail, a Ridgway’s rail or a Suisun shrew. The lush hillsides of the wine country are home to black-tailed deer, coyotes, red-tailed hawks and even a mountain lion. (Don’t worry, your guide will keep you safe!)

Long before Spanish explorers arrived (and a really, really long time before your visit), the native Miwoks named the area “Sonoma” (Valley of the Moon). American immigrants took control of the region in the 1800s. At some point, you may want to give a shout-out to George Calvert Young. He planted the first Napa Valley grapes in 1839. (“Cheers, George!”)

Fast-forward to today, and you’ll see a beautiful region that produces some of the world’s best wines. Don’t just take our word for it. You can look it up! At the Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, a contest conceived by a British wine merchant with French judges, California wines won best-in-the-world honors. (Take a bow, California!)

You won’t be asked to do any blind-tasting comparisons during your four-winery tour. (We’ll leave that to those stuffy French judges.) Instead, just remember these five easy wine-tasting steps: See, swirl, sniff, sip, swallow. Repeat. Now you’ve got it! (A person could sure fall in love with this course of study!)

Enjoy a delicious picnic lunch with your tour companions and try out a variety of food-wine pairings and see what delights your taste buds. (Future picnics will never be the same!) Whether you consider yourself a wine connoisseur or a wine-tasting novice, you’ll be warmed by the good company of the people in your tour and your friendly vineyard hosts. And, in an exclusive part of our adventure, you’ll explore a wine cellar, cave or barrel room and take part in a unique barrel tasting. (Tasting wine, of course, not the barrel!)

Though Napa and Sonoma wineries are the stars of this tour, your Expedition Leader (a star in his own universe!) will make sure to stop on the way back so you can take some amazing selfies in front of the Golden Gate Bridge or Bay Bridge before arriving back at your hotel.

Is there a favorite type of wine or appellations you like to visit? The afternoon portion of this tour is flexible. Just email us at [email protected] and we’ll let your Expedition Leader know. Please note that most wineries charge a wine tasting fee of $20 to $40.

How many ounces of wine do you serve for a tasting?

2 ounces of wine is an ideal amount for 2-3 sips during a tasting

How far is Napa Valley from San Francisco?

67 miles

How much are wine-tasting fees in the country?

The average Napa Valley fee for a basic tasting is $15-$25. But don’t worry, two of these are covered in the tour price.

Are kids allowed on wine tasting tours?

No. Age limitation applies. Only 21+ are allowed on this tour.

– JCR J. on 12/13/2017

A very enjoyable day with Don acting as a knowledgable and considerate guide. A variety of vineyards, from boutique to a larger corporate enterprise. Don organised a very nice picnic lunch, including a good Pinot Noir to share. He listened and where we wanted change (we suggested a particular vineyard) he adjusted his tour plan to accommodate this. Back to San Fransisco at a reasonable hour so a definite recommendation if you enjoy wine and would like to get a feel of the Napa Valley/Sonoma regions.
– Sandi and David .. on 12/13/2017

The group was early so Frank stopped at some viewpoints where we got some fabulous shots of the Golden Gate Bridge The wineries chosen were unique and I tasted some of the best wines ever at Nicholson Ranch wineries....everyone in the group loved the Chardonnay The lunch experience was a little underwhelming although definitely enough food...maybe some paper plates and forks for the fruit would have helped However the wines and total experience Was fabulous!
