San Francisco Bay In a Day

San Francisco Bay In a Day

  • How will we recognize the tour vehicle?

As we have several different vehicles, we don’t know until the morning of your tour which vehicle will be hosting your tour as well as the name of your Expedition Leader. Please feel free to call us in the morning of your tour if you like. Regardless of which vehicle will come to your location, it should say “Extranomical Tours” on it.

  • Are there restrooms on board the vehicles?

Our vehicles at this time do not have any restroom facilities. We do, however, make several stops throughout the tours and there will be opportunities for you to use the restroom.

  • What do I have to be aware of when traveling with a child?

Please note that for your child's safety, we require you to bring a child safety seat or booster seat for all children under 8 years of age or 4' 9" in height, as dictated by California State Law. You will be required to bring your own child seat on all motor vehicle tours. Failure to provide a seat for your child will result in forfeit of your seats on the tour without a refund. Please also note that any children 12 years and older must have an adult ticket as they do not qualify for a child-priced ticket.

  • What kind of luggage am I allowed to bring?

You are allowed up to travel with up to 2 items (i.e. 1 Personal item + 1 Overnight bag) free of charge. These items must be within the size limitations. Each additional item above the 2-item allowance will incur a $25 excess luggage fee.

The maximum size allowed for an overnight bag is 24”x16”x10”, or 60cmx40cmx25cm. Any “Oversize” luggage larger than those dimensions is $50 regardless of the number of personal items brought on board. (i.e. 1 Oversized luggage - $50, 2 Oversized pieces = $100). You must advise us of oversize luggage 48 hours prior to departure in order to guarantee the accommodation of the luggage on the vehicle.

Great news! Our luggage policy does NOT apply to our Lake Tahoe tours! However, please be courteous and keep in mind that we have limited storage space on our vehicles.

  • Can I bring a wheelchair on the vehicle?

We do have wheelchair-capable vehicles available – subject to availability. Please notify us at least 48 hours in advance if you are bringing a wheelchair on the tour or at the time of your booking so that we can make the appropriate arrangements.

  • Do you have a lost and found?

Yes, items left in the vehicle are stored in a lost and found area for 30 days. If you left something on one of our tours, please give us a call office at 1-866-231-3752 (toll free from the USA) or 1-415-357-0700 to see if it has been found. Once you have confirmed with us that your item has been found by our staff and you are still in town, you can come by to pick up your item. Otherwise, we will ship almost any item to any destination within the U.S. for a flat fee of $25. Extranomical Tours is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

  • How accurate are the times on the itinerary?

Times listed are approximates only. Traffic and other unforeseen issues can cause delays or changes in these times, which are out of our control. Please do not make flight/travel arrangements on the same day as your tour. Extranomical Tours is not responsible for and will not be providing any compensation for missed flights or appointments.

  • What is your address?

We are located at 928 Harrison St. San Francisco, CA 94107 (between 5th Street and 6th Street).

Your “city insider” guide knows where to go so you get the most from your visit to San Francisco. Don't just sit on the dock of the bay—see all of San Francisco’s attractions like The Embarcadero. Fisherman’s Wharf. Pier 39. Coit Tower. Financial District. Palace of Fine Arts. Chinatown. Nob Hill. The Castro and Mission districts. And the not-to-be-missed Golden Gate Bridge. (Make sure you have enough memory for all those selfies!)

To complete this San Francisco city tour, you’ll head out to explore the city’s majestic parks, rugged coastline and diverse neighborhoods. Enjoy historic Presidio. Pause to enjoy cliff-side views of “city by the bay”. Be blown away by the beauty of Golden Gate Park.

What made the Haight-Ashbury, Mission and Castro districts what they are today? Learn the stories. Laugh out loud at the surprising, sometimes crazy, things that have made San Francisco one of the world’s most beloved cities.

Extranomical brings you exclusive experiences and attraction entries you won’t get on other San Francisco city tours. Enjoy a less-well-traveled spot for admiring the Golden Gate Bridge.

Get a good night’s sleep! Including the morning excursion to Alcatraz or Muir Woods, this San Francisco city tour goes from dawn ‘til dusk. Why go home without seeing it all?

Note that traffic in San Francisco can be tricky. But don’t worry: We’ll tweak the itinerary as needed to give you the best possible tour.

Part 1 – Begin at your hotel:

  • Enjoy an easy pickup at (or nearby) to your hotel. Meet your know-it-all guide. As you settle into your seat, meet the other guests. Ask them where they are from.
  • Tour SOMA, the financial district, San Francisco’s Waterfront and the Ferry Building. Enjoy a quick stop and get some coffee and breakfast pastries.
  • Cruise along the Embarcadero to Pier 35 (Alcatraz drop off).

Part 2 - Special morning attraction:

  • If you have booked your Bay In a Day with Alcatraz, we will drop you off at Pier 33 and you will board a ferry to Alcatraz Island. Your Alcatraz Tour begins with a 45 minute audio presentation "Doing Time: The Alcatraz Cellhouse Tour," featuring recordings of actual guards and inmates who lived and worked on the Island. Once your Alcatraz Audio Tour is finished, explore Alcatraz Island as long want on your own, but don’t forget that you have to get the ferry back to San Francisco!
  • Alternatively, you can book your Bay In a Day tour with a visit to Muir Woods. Sit back and relax as we journey to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area where the Giant Coastal Redwoods of Muir Woods await. Hug a tree! Think deep thoughts! On the way back, we will make a stop in the (usually) sunny, sea-side community of Sausalito. Charming!

Lunch:

  • For our Muir Woods National Monument visitors, you have the opportunity to grab lunch in Sausalito! It is probably the best choice for lunch. Pick a table by a window! Then head back to San Francisco and start your city tour.
  • For our Alcatraz Visitors, you will have time to grab some lunch along the waterfront after your Alcatraz tour is completed. Meet up at the Zephyr Hotel by 1:40 so we can re-board the vehicle for our afternoon exploring more San Francisco attractions.

Part 4 - Late afternoon:

  • Start the afternoon portion of the tour with a trip to the Palace of Fine Arts. After snapping some pics there, we’ll all journey across the grand Golden Gate Bridge.
  • Enter Golden Gate Park from the Ocean Beach - cool!. Here, you’ll see the Bison Paddock. Enormous Dutch windmills! And Spreckels Lake. Beautiful! Take a 20 minute break here and explore.
  • Put some flowers in your hair as you arrive in Haight-Ashbury—epicenter for the Summer of Love. See the Grateful Dead House, Jimi Hendrix Red House and Victorian homes that survived the fire of 1906.
  • Pass through the storied Castro and its rainbow crosswalk and Mission districts. See the Mission Dolores; it was founded in 1776. Then roll by public murals—some old, some still fresh!
  • Catch views of awesome public buildings: SF City Hall. War Memorial Opera House. The Pioneer Monument. Take more pics!
  • We take it nice and slow as we pass Nob Hill on our way to Union Square. There’s a lot to see here! Grace Cathedral. The Fairmont and Mark Hopkins hotels. And the Pacific Union Club.
  • A close-up look at Chinatown and its amazing street life. Sometimes the traffic is crazy, but we know the best ways through it...
  • See North Beach, the Italian neighborhood of San Francisco. You will see Little Italy cafes, Washington Square Park, St. Peter & Paul Church, Telegraph Hill and Coit Tower. Jump off the tour here and have dinner if you like!
