Bay in a Day with Muir Woods

  • How will we recognize the tour vehicle?

As we have several different vehicles, we don’t know until the morning of your tour which vehicle will be hosting your tour as well as the name of your Expedition Leader. Please feel free to call us in the morning of your tour if you like. Regardless of which vehicle will come to your location, it should say “Extranomical Tours” on it.

  • Are there restrooms on board the vehicles?

Our vehicles at this time do not have any restroom facilities. We do, however, make several stops throughout the tours and there will be opportunities for you to use the restroom.

  • What do I have to be aware of when traveling with a child?

Please note that for your child's safety, we require you to bring a child safety seat or booster seat for all children under 8 years of age or 4' 9" in height, as dictated by California State Law. You will be required to bring your own child seat on all motor vehicle tours. Failure to provide a seat for your child will result in forfeit of your seats on the tour without a refund. Please also note that any children 12 years and older must have an adult ticket as they do not qualify for a child-priced ticket.

  • What kind of luggage am I allowed to bring?

You are allowed up to travel with up to 2 items (i.e. 1 Personal item + 1 Overnight bag) free of charge. These items must be within the size limitations. Each additional item above the 2-item allowance will incur a $25 excess luggage fee.

The maximum size allowed for an overnight bag is 24”x16”x10”, or 60cmx40cmx25cm. Any “Oversize” luggage larger than those dimensions is $50 regardless of the number of personal items brought on board. (i.e. 1 Oversized luggage - $50, 2 Oversized pieces = $100). You must advise us of oversize luggage 48 hours prior to departure in order to guarantee the accommodation of the luggage on the vehicle.

Great news! Our luggage policy does NOT apply to our Lake Tahoe tours! However, please be courteous and keep in mind that we have limited storage space on our vehicles.

  • Can I bring a wheelchair on the vehicle?

We do have wheelchair-capable vehicles available – subject to availability. Please notify us at least 48 hours in advance if you are bringing a wheelchair on the tour or at the time of your booking so that we can make the appropriate arrangements.

  • Do you have a lost and found?

Yes, items left in the vehicle are stored in a lost and found area for 30 days. If you left something on one of our tours, please give us a call office at 1-866-231-3752 (toll free from the USA) or 1-415-357-0700 to see if it has been found. Once you have confirmed with us that your item has been found by our staff and you are still in town, you can come by to pick up your item. Otherwise, we will ship almost any item to any destination within the U.S. for a flat fee of $25. Extranomical Tours is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

  • How accurate are the times on the itinerary?

Times listed are approximates only. Traffic and other unforeseen issues can cause delays or changes in these times, which are out of our control. Please do not make flight/travel arrangements on the same day as your tour. Extranomical Tours is not responsible for and will not be providing any compensation for missed flights or appointments.

  • What is your address?

We are located at 928 Harrison St. San Francisco, CA 94107 (between 5th Street and 6th Street).

This comprehensive one-day San Francisco and Muir Woods tour is where the average city slicker can get in touch with their inner spirit of the great outdoors. Oh Yeah! You will ride in comfort, hike some trails, and see earth's largest living creatures. Your Bay in a Day tour with Muir Woods option explores all the top attractions of the city while venturing into the always-magical Muir Woods National Monument!

Extranomical brings you exclusive experiences and attraction entries you won’t get on other San Francisco city tours. Your expedition leader knows where and how to get the most from your visit to San Francisco.

Let the expedition begin! We start our day off right with a convenient pick up from your hotel. Your Bay in a Day San Francisco and Muir Woods tour begins by exploring the city’s legendary waterfront, learning the stories of the Embarcadero, Levi’s Plaza and Fisherman's Wharf. We’ll even take a brief coffee break at the Ferry Building. Can you spot the wild cherry-headed parrots? Got your bucket list handy? Check off “crossing the Golden Gate Bridge”.

We’ll arrive at Muir Woods National Monument while the fog is still shrouding the trees. Step out and stretch your legs. There are lots of trail options—we recommend the one that along Shadowy Redwood creek all the way to Bridge #4. Along the trails we will see 250-foot-tall Coastal Redwood trees! Awesome! The trails vary in length, some so long they extend into the other national parks. Don’t take them or you’ll miss the rest of the tour!

Once you’ve had your fill of Muir Woods, we’ll load up and head for the charming sea-side community of Sausalito. You’ll have about an hour to take in the dramatic views of San Francisco’s skyline, shop for souvenirs and have a little lunch.

Re-board our vehicle and make our way back to begin your “city insider's" tour! We'll visit North Beach, an historic Italian neighborhood. So Cool! While there, we’ll point out Lombard Street, Coit Tower, Washington Square and more.

Next, we’ll visit the Palace of Fine Arts. That’s one gorgeous building! And the main event—a trip across the Golden Gate Bridge! Selfies galore!

On this tour, you’ll next see the City’s rugged coastline. Pause to enjoy cliff-side views of “city by the bay”. Be blown away by the beauty of Golden Gate Park.

Our San Francisco one-day tour will take you through the culturally rich neighborhoods of San Francisco! You’ll learn about what made the Haight-Ashbury, Mission and Castro districts what they are and why they’re important to so many. Take a slow drive through Chinatown and Nob Hill (some say, “Snob Hill” Ha!). Laugh out loud at the surprising, sometimes crazy, things that have made San Francisco one of the world’s most beloved cities. Don't just take a tour. Have yourself an Extranomical day!

Note that traffic in San Francisco can be tricky. But don’t worry: We’ll tweak the itinerary as needed to give you the best possible tour.

Part 1 – Pickup at your hotel:

  • Your Extranomical experience “San Francisco Bay In a Day Tour” will begin at your downtown or Fisherman's Wharf hotel first thing in the morning to make the beginning of your day a breeze. Awesome! Once you become comfortable onboard, we suggest making new friends with your fellow travelers.
  • Right after we begin, we’ll already be at San Francisco’s Waterfront and the Ferry Building. This is the perfect time and place to grab some coffee and breakfast snacks. We love gummy bears and trail mix! Delicious!

Part 2 - Special morning attraction:

  • Next the tour will cruise across the Golden Gate Bridge as we make our way to Muir Woods National Monument. Spend approximately 90 minutes to discover and experience this natural treasure. Sweet! Gaze up into the Coastal Redwood canopy. Hear the sounds of nature. Smell the blooming flora and fauna. These trees are colossal!

Lunch:

  • Lunch time in Sausalito! Yes! It's the best choice for lunch. Pick a table by a window and enjoy the view! Awesome! Then we head back to San Francisco to kick off our amazing city tour.

Part 4 - Late afternoon:

  • Make sure you've uploaded every Snap and Instagram pictures to your timelines before we begin our San Francisco One Day Tour, starting with the Palace of Fine Arts. After a few selfies, we’ll all journey briefly across the grand Golden Gate Bridge. Want that perfect shot of the Bridge? You’ll get it - Trust me!
  • Next, we enter Golden Gate Park from the Ocean Beach entrance - Gorgeous! Here, you’ll see the Bison Paddock. Some enormous Dutch windmills! Awesomeness!
  • You’ll have time to stretch your legs and do some exploring at the Music Concourse. Check out the outdoor sculpture garden at the de Young Museum. If you move quickly, you’ll have just enough time to take a quick tour of the Japanese Tea Garden. Its Zen-sational!
  • Your 1-day tour of San Francisco will also visit the Haight-Ashbury! Here, at the epicenter for the Summer of Love you may want to weave a couple of daisies into your hair or make the universal sign for peace! Some really rocking houses are coming, like The Grateful Dead House, Jimi Hendrix Red House. Oh yeah! We will also see some Victorian homes that survived the fire of 1906. Love it!
  • This San Francisco day tour passes through the storied Castro district and the Mission district with its public murals—some old, some still fresh! Yes, we also art fanatics!
  • Some more awesome architecture is coming your way! SF City Hall, The War Memorial Opera House, and the Pioneer Monument. Your Snapchat followers will be in a state of envy because these sights are Extranomically awesome!
  • Our next destination will be Nob Hill followed by Union Square. On this route, we’ll go right by Grace Cathedral, the Fairmont and Mark Hopkins hotels, the Pacific Union Club and much more! Chinatown’s living urban culture is always a fascinating sight to see. The traffic is crazy here, but we know the best way through it.
  • Lastly, we'll visit North Beach, the little Italy of San Francisco. You will see cute cafes, Washington Square Park, St. Peter & Paul Church, Telegraph Hill and Coit Tower. Even though this is where we conclude our tour, many of our guests get off and have dinner! Bon appétit!
