Muir Woods & Wine Country Escape℠ Two Day Tour

Muir Woods, Wine Country & Overnight Stay in Sonoma Valley

  • What do I need to bring?

    • Park entrance fee
    • Valid ID
    • Camera
    • Money for additional wine tasting at the Sonoma Plaza
    • Sunscreen during summer months
    • Bottled water
    • Money for lunch
    • Winter clothes during the winter months
    • Solid shoes
  • What should I wear?

We recommend comfortable walking shoes, such as shoes or boots with rubber soles and treads. Hiking sandals (rather than beach sandals) can be worn on the Redwoods & Wine Country Escape during the summer months. High heels, flip-flops, and open-toe shoes are not recommended.

  • Is the Muir Woods entrance fee included? And how long do we spend inside Muir Woods?

The tour price does not include the Muir Woods entrance fee, which is $10 per person (based on 2016) and must be paid when you reach the entrance of the park. You have about an hour on your own inside the Muir Woods National Monument.

  • Which wineries are we going to visit?

On our Redwoods & Wine Country Escape tour we visit 3 wineries, located in Sonoma Valley and Napa Valley. Each winery stop ranges from 30-45 minutes. We’ve narrowed the list of winery stops to those that offer the best California Wine Country experience for our clientele. We have preferred partner wineries that we like to visit but the wineries may depend on the day. Occasionally, a winery on our tour may be closed for a private event, so our tour guides may change the itinerary on the day of the trip.

  • Does this tour go to Napa?

Yes, we do. The itinerary of visiting Napa Valley AND Sonoma Valley in combination with Muir Woods National Monument is what makes this tour unique.

  • Are wine tasting included and how much money do I need for the additional wine tastings in Sonoma Plaza?

Yes, all wine tasting fees at the 3 winery stops are included on this tour. If you want to join additional wine tasting, please feel free to do that. The wine tasting fees range from $5 to $20.

  • What languages are available for this tour?

The tour is narrated in English but we offer complimentary audio guides in 8 languages: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Korean, Mandarin, Japanese, and Portuguese. If an audio tour is required, please specify the languages needed in the comments section on the reservation page.

  • Is this tour suitable for children?

Yes, children of all ages are welcome on the tour though drinking alcohol is not permitted for those under the age of 21. Please bring a valid photo ID.

  • Do we stop at Golden Gate Bridge?

Yes, there will be about 15-minutes for a photo stop opportunity at the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.

  • Can we buy food or do we have to bring our own lunch?

You are more than welcome to bring a bagged lunch though you will have time to pick up lunch or sit down at a casual eatery at the Historic Sonoma Plaza.

  • What is the advantage of this combination tour compared to the tours separately?

The Redwoods & Wine Country Escape combines two of California's top attractions. You get the chance to see the Giant Redwood trees and you will join several wine tastings in both Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley - all in just one day. There is also a huge saving by booking this combination tour rather than booking both trips separately.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Golden Gate National Recreation Area now requires advance reservations for private vehicles wishing to utilize the parking areas at Muir Woods National Monument. We offer daily departures -- book with us and secure your spot to see the Redwoods.

This tour is no longer available for check in on or after April 1, 2018.

Discover the wonder of Muir Woods & Wine Country on a Two-Day Tour. Located less than an hour outside of San Francisco, Muir Woods and Wine Country are two of Northern California’s top travel destinations. An overnight stay in the heart of Sonoma Valley allows you to maximize your time in this world-class wine region. It is an ideal place for a romantic getaway. We pride ourselves on being the only Woods & Wine tour to visit both Napa Valley & Sonoma Valley wineries and specially treat you to a sparkling wine tasting. All tasting fees are included on this wine country tour. You’ll even have a chance to tour behind the scenes in the winemaking facilities.

Day one begins with a short drive across the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Woods National Monument. We get you to the park before the crowds, providing quality time to hike. You’ll have an hour to explore the Coastal Redwood Sequoia groves, home to the world’s tallest trees.

After an hour or so of hiking, we start our short drive north to the birthplace of California's premium wine industry, Sonoma. Here you'll learn about the process of winemaking while sipping on a variety of fine wines. Later, we will drop you off at your hotel, where you can check in before heading out to the historic Sonoma Plaza in time for lunch.Your hotel for the night is the Best Western Sonoma Valley Inn and it is perfectly positioned just one block from the historic Sonoma Plaza, a square steeped in history and charm.

On the second day, after your complimentary breakfast, you have the morning to yourself. Time to enjoy some of the amenities at the hotel or meander through the historic streets of Sonoma. Around lunch time, the hotel shuttle will drop you back at the plaza where you will meet up with the Extranomical’s group and begin the second part of your tour. Our first stop is the Madonna Estate Winery who has been producing organic wine in Napa Valley for over 80 years. The final wine tasting stop, before heading back to the city, is Cline Cellars, a family-owned and operated winery dedicated to Rhone varietals. Here is an ideal opportunity to grab that ‘selfie’ in the vineyard, stroll the beautiful grounds, feed the carp and meet the miniature donkeys.

Then it is time to head back to San Francisco, keeping our fingers crossed for a stop at the Golden Gate Bridge. Depending on the fog and traffic we hope to stop for one more photo opportunity, looking out above the bridge and across the bay to the San Francisco city skyline. Finally we drop you off at your hotel…. possibly in time for ‘Happy Hour’!

Luggage Policy: Customers are allowed up to 2 luggage items (1 carry-on & 1 personal item) free of charge. Each additional item will incur a $25 excess luggage fee. Maximum dimensions are 24” x 16” x 10” (60cm x 40cm x 25cm). Passengers must advise us of oversize luggage 48 hours prior to departure in order to guarantee the accommodation of the luggage on the vehicle

Muir Woods & Wine Country Escape℠ Two Day Tour
– Rita D. on 07/30/2015

Enjoyed his knowledge and humor. He kept the tour very up beat.
– Magnus J. on 07/27/2014

4 stars above (do not see the stars). Nice tour with good and entertaining guides (day1: Roman ; day2: Andy). More time in Muir Woods would have been nice, but there are other tours for that. The winery's were good with good wines and great presentations by nice people, especially at the Cline winery. The stayover in Sonoma we could have skipped since everything (winery's and breweries) closed around 5pm, even if there was a few nice restaurants open late. We went to the restaurant Burgers & Wine and loved it.
– Mary J. on 07/06/2014

Was very informative tour. Enjoyed the different type of wineries that were selected. Do not take Mayo off your list, was our favorite. We had Nick the first day of the tour and Paul the second day. Both were great.
