Yosemite Officials Plan Burn Next Week

Jun
30 2010

Yosemite National Park officials have scheduled a planned burn of 200 acres near Crane Flat in the western part of Yosemite beginning right after the 4th of July holiday. Park spokeswoman Kari Cobb has stated that the planned burn will begin early next week as long as the weather cooperates. High winds have become a problem for fire crews in the past and Yosemite Park officials are taking extra precautions this year.

The fire will be tended by fire engines, water tenders and fire crews from Yosemite National Park and the U.S. Forest Service. The scheduled burn is expected to take about 3 days to complete. Although some smoke will be visible in the park the smoke should be thickest in El Portal, Foresta and Hogdon Meadow.  Most of the smoke will dissipate quickly and park visitors should not be significantly impacted.
