Sonoma’s New Environmentally Friendly Hotel

Jul
22 2010

During the last year many hotels have opened with an environmentally friendly slant.  This month the H2Hotel in Sonoma County opened with some surprising green solutions to combat everyday concerns.   Designed by David Fischer + Partners,  Andrea Cochran Landscape Design and Marie Fisher and Jen Gladiel Interior Design.

The H2Hotel is built on a former site of a Chevron station and features several unique green design elements including an undulating living roof that takes up 75 percent of the building’s roof space.  The living roof is not only aesthetically pleasing but also serves as an insulator and rain water filter.  Along with the the wildlife the green roof attracts is a 3,000 square foot meadow, located next to the hotel, which hotel employees are working  to restore with with several environmental organizations.

The interior design of the hotel incorporates sustainable and reclaimed wood, no VOC paint, natural fiber rugs and linens and no plastics.  Hotel guests are encouraged to ride their bicycles or rent bicycles from the hotel for a ride through wine country.  The hotel also offers guests storage spaces for their bikes as well as a free bicycle maintenance shop.  For more information regarding the H2Hotel please visit http://www.h2hotel.com/home/ .
