Yosemite's Badger Pass Ski Resort Lives On

Mar
18 2009

Few of the hordes of people traveling to Yosemite National Park and taking Yosemite tours are even aware that Yosemite has a ski resort, but Badger Pass is California’s oldest ski slope and with newly injected millions into the rustic throwback, Badger Pass looks set to still have a long life ahead. While there was ongoing speculation about the low-key ski resort’s prospects given its lack of development over the years, it’s this quaint character that seems to define it and has become the defining element that day trippers seem to embrace.

What the ski resort lacks in presentation, it makes up for in taking those who enjoy it back to a time of family togetherness and simpler times. The firm the runs the facility on the behalf of Yosemite, seems to recognize this and has injected its millions not toward changing the character of the place, but simply to support the resort in its inimitable existing style. That style is much as it was in the early thirties when the slope opened and images of those times can be seen on the lodge wall. Other than the clothing and hairstyles, the photos are evidence that not a lot has changed since 1935 at Badger Pass, and therein you’ll find its charm.
