Yosemite National Park Welcomes New Superintendent

Yosemite National Park

After fifteen years as superintendent of Point Reyes National Seashore, Don Neubaucher, has joined the ranks at Yosemite National Park . While Neubaucher brings many years of experience with him only time will tell whether the veteran superintendent can bring together passionate park advocates who often clash over the direction the park is taking. Neubaucher will take over for Michael Tollefson, who left Yosemite a year ago to run the Yosemite fund in San Francisco.

Neubaucher will face many challenges during his term at Yosemite including recovery from flooding during 1997 and lawsuits regarding the best way to restore the park. There is also conflict over the amount of traffic the park withstands on a daily basis. Neubaucher will have to form a balance between allowing accessibility to as many tourists as possible while protecting the park from the human traffic of several millions of tourists, hikers and backpackers. Luckily for Yosemite Neubaucher has experience creating harmony between nature and people.
