Yosemite Lodging Reservation Snafu Sets the Phones Alight

Apr
08 2009

Yosemite National Park had its hands full while getting an earful from more than three thousand prospective summer visitors over lodging reservations when an inadvertent e-mail was rifled off to many thousands more than intended, informing them that there was an issue with their bookings.

The errant e-mail was targeted toward only 750 people whose accommodations reservations were jeopardized as a result of last fall’s rock slide that damaged the popular Curry Village at the north end of the Yosemite tours Mecca of Yosemite Valley. The result of the most recent rock fall was 230 permanent cabin closings subtracting further from a shrinking accommodations list inside Yosemite National Park. The park has not had a chance to replace any of the various cabin closings over recent years as the park awaits a comprehensive plan to address such things, something not expected for the next few years.

Given the reduction in accommodations there was an inevitable overbooking situation at hand and the e-mails were intended to drive reservations holders to make contact with the park in order to address alternative dates or accommodations. Instead of the correct number of actually affected individuals being contacted, everyone with a reservation through the summer was contacted – about four times what the park had intended. A new toll-free number is now being established to handle the phone traffic and resolution of the accommodations e-mail snafu.

Those who have made or wishg to make future reservations for Yosemite Curry Village Tent Cabin Tour through Extranomical Adventures, will not be affected.
