Tourism Going Green

Jul
24 2009

The tourism industry is undergoing a major change in order to keep in line with the changing environmental factors challenging the world's natural ecosystem. Companies such as Extranomical Adventures are now operating as 'carbon neutral' by funding projects that prevent deforestation, plant trees and support clean energy development. Carbon offsets are becoming a very popular trend in the tourism industry and provides tourists with a positive option to offset their travel as well.

Yosemite National Park has also become part of the ever popular green trend by unveiling a small fleet of energy efficient vehicles. The park has purchased four new hybrid (electric-diesel) tractors which will be used to pull trailers during two hour Yosemite Valley Floor Tours. The floor tours are a popular Yosemite tourist attraction with a yearly average of 70,000 participating tourists. The new hybrid tractors will reduce emissions by 85% and allow for an 800% better fuel economy.
