Cycling Tour of California Includes Yosemite

Feb
11 2009

This year’s fourth annual Amgen Tour of California will kick off next week and encompass much of what the state can offer in terms of challenging terrain, including parts of northern California’s wine country and for the first time it the Tour’s history, cut through portions of the majestic scenery of Yosemite National Park and its sightseeing attractions.

The seven hundred and fifty mile long race will carve its way through two towns that act as entrances to Yosemite, Oakhurst and Mariposa. The race is viewed as a tune-up in the team’s larger goal of mounting a significant challenge in this year’s upcoming Tour de France race. And winning the prestigious Tour de France is not outside the realm of possibility given that team has on its roster, the seven time Tour de France champion, Lance Armstrong.

Officials at Yosemite are giving notice to those wishing to visit the park on that day or watch the racers, that the Tour of California will disrupt traffic flowing into the park for two hours on next Wednesday between 12:00 and 2:00, during the fourth stage of the event when one hundred cyclists will stream through the area. The affected roads will be Highway 140 and Highway 41, mid-day on February 18th so make the necessary adjustments to your schedules.
