Yosemite Campsites Experience Jump in Demand

Many vacationers are gearing up for the summer holiday rush by reserving their favorite campsites in Yosemite National Park  Many tourists to Yosemite and other popular recreation areas will have to make their reservations months in advance in order to book a prime spot.  Although the recession has created a large job deficit throughout the state, many families are extending their summer vacations instead of shortening or foregoing them all together.  According to the California Department of Parks and Recreation, the total number of camp spots reserved for the coming summer months has already increased by 25% over those made last year at this time.

Yosemite National Park and the coastal camping areas from the Sonoma coast down to Mexico are the two top choices for vacationers this summer.  Most of the families camping in both the coastal and Yosemite areas have made their reservations months in advance, but the good news for those who have not made reservations for these popular regions yet is that first come first serve campsites are available for most parks in the state.  Out of the more than 15,000 campsites available in California only 11,000 can be reserved which still leaves hope for those who are willing to get there early.  There are dozens of parks to choose from in California, so for more information please visit www.parks.ca.gov.
