Wine Tasting Before, Oysters After

Apr
21 2009

Just west of Sonoma Valley lays Tomales Bay home of the Tomales Bay Oyster Company.  This small family run oyster farm has been in business for over 100 years and boasts delectable oysters which can be enjoyed right on the water.  How does an early morning wine tasting with a leisurely drive through wine country toward the coast for a lunch of oysters on the half shell sound?  The Tomales Bay oyster farm is located just off Highway One and is open to the public every day of the year from 6 pm to 8 pm.

A visitor to the oyster farm can purchase Pacific Oysters locally farmed in Tomales Bay along with locally farmed mussels and manila clams.  Along with the fresh mussels are sundry items which are also available such as oyster knives, charcoal and ice. While visiting the farm guests are invited to use the picnic tables and barbeques or simply pick up their purchase to go.  Pairing wine with oysters is not an easy feat but if you are travelling to or from Sonoma Valley on your way to the Tomales Bay oyster farm try these wines with the mussels: Kenwood Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc, Lake Sonoma Dry Creek Valley Fume Blanc and from Napa Valley the Honig Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc is a great pairing.  So don't forget to bring a bottle of your favorite Sonoma Valley varietal to sample while enjoying the fresh oysters of Tomales Bay!

Please visit the Tomales Bay Oyster Farm website for specific details.
