The Korbel Estate is located in the heart of Sonoma Valley on 2000 acres of land producing some of the world's finest Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Pinot Noir. This estate is situated in the center of wine country and surrounded by rolling hills, red wood groves and the Pacific Coast line. The winery offers guests a tour of the cellars, a chance to view the wine making process first hand and a tour of the vineyard. Although, the most sought after attraction at this winery is a tour of the antique rose garden first planted in the 1880's by the the Korbel family. The rose garden opens to the public every spring and tours are offered on a daily basis.
The garden is tended by master horticulturalist Phillip Robinson who has created an array of color, texture and fragrance that shifts with the season and the wine country weather. There are also quite a few original trees, roses and other flowers that were planted by the founding family to remind them of their native home, Czechoslavakia. Robinson has included over 1,000 plants, bulbs, perennials and annuals to the more than 250 varieties of antique roses on display. The unusual topography within the garden creates unique micro climate areas that are identical to tropical areas through out the world and are host to native plants of that specific region. Tours run daily starting at 11:00 am. For more information about Korbel Estate visit their website at www.korbel.com.
