Due to recent increases in Sonoma County tourism, the Sonoma County Tourism Bureau has initiated a three year strategic plan. This plan aims to increase tech marketing, create satellite locations in the East Coast and abroad, and to move into a larger home office. The Board of Supervisors funded the Bureau for a period longer than one year for the first time in the Fall of 2008, thus permitting the Bureau to prepare its three-year plan.
The Bureau will move to 3637 Westwind Blvd., an action that will provide space for future hires and a larger conference meeting room. Although the group currently has satellite offices in Sacramento, Houston and Chicago, it plans on opening an East Coast and European office. In addition to the new offices, the group will also focus on alternative forms of advertising such as Internet-based services and text messaging. The Bureau currently has a Twitter and Facebook account, a YouTube Channel, and a mobile phone version of its website. One of the Bureau's most successful promotions requires clients to text a certain number for hotel and wine promotions, which change every Thursday. Mr. Fischang, the Bureau's President and CEO stated that a recent text message campaign was responsible for 60 percent of the hotel rooms booked at the Hilton Sonoma Wine Country.
