San Francisco City Wineries Assemble for Their First Annual Spring Fling

Apr
15 2009

Napa and Sonoma aren’t the only Bay Area destinations with wineries on offer and the San Francisco Wine Association – an assembly of eighteen wineries within San Francisco, will host its first “Spring Fling” at the Crushpad Winery south of Market Street on May 7th. The wineries are celebrating their products and will be offering tastings, and their wines for sale which are hand-made by family owned wineries in the city.

The event is intended to be a fun gathering of people seeking the experience of local boutique artisan wines. These are award winning wines produced in an urban environment and this is an opportunity to not only sample such fine local creations, but meet the vintners responsible for some exciting local productions. While there are plenty of wine country tours that take people up into the Sonoma Valley and Napa Valley, the SFWA believes that there is certainly a market for quality wines produced within the city proper and this Spring Fling gathering is intended to get the word out to the public that there are great wines to be experienced without leaving San Francisco. The association hopes that the event will bring some exposure to all of the truly local wineries and that soon San Francisco tours might consider offsetting their wine country tours with a wine tour right here in town, guiding tourists around to the eighteen city wineries for wine tours that mimic those up in wine country.
