Possible Tourism Business Improvement District in Napa County

Dec
21 2009
Sonoma Valley

Napa County is one of the only wine country destinations in Northern California lacking a county run business improvement organization. A Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) is what many Northern California tourist destinations, such as Sonoma Valley and San Francisco, use to manage the funds raised.

Clay Gregory, President and CEO of Napa Valley Business Council, which is spearheading the campaign, is excited about the opportunity for the region to compete with other areas that raise and use funds through a Tourism Business Improvement District. The funds would be collected in the form of a 1.5 percent assessment on hotel room rentals. Another 0.5 percent assessment would be divided by each of the 5 cities making up Napa County and would be used for individual city marketing campaigns. Before the Napa Valley Tourism Business Improvement District can begin collecting revenue the proposal must be approved by a majority of the hotels in the region. Napa Valley has always been a popular Wine Country tourist destination and many local businesses believe that the addition of the Tourism Business Improvement District will ensure the popularity of Napa Valley for years to come.
