The newest, greenest resort in wine country, the Bardesso Resort in the center of Napa Valley at Yountville, opened this week after much anticipation. While the complex is heavily focused on being environmentally considerate, the intention is to be a luxury resort with a conscience but one that does so without compromising any of the amenities and comforts that one would expect to find at any other luxury resort.
Set in the middle of Napa Valley wineries, the Bardesso Inn and Spa seems to have delivered on that intention when it opened its doors to the public this week. The resort capture the outdoor lifestyle associated with northern California’s wine country and brings the outdoors in or invites guest outside at every opportunity. There is a seventy-five foot swimming pool on the roof of the resort, offering a nice view of surrounding Napa Valley and the surrounding mountain ranges. All the guest rooms have private outside courtyards, each with an outdoor shower. The spa houses four treatments rooms but services can be requested in the privacy of your room’s outdoor courtyard.
While the resort is designed to warrant a Platinum LEED certification for its design efforts using organic landscaping of indigenous plants, sustainable building materials, extensive energy management systems, as well as geothermal and solar energy, the Napa Valley resort wants guests to bask in the unique character of the property and to connect with the environment, enjoying the luxuries that one would expect at any high-end resort but doing so without feeling the guilt of abusing the environment. But you will know that you are in a different kind of resort upon your first step into the Bardesso; upon entering the foyer you will not see a front desk. There isn’t one. There is merely staff mingling in the lobby to welcome you to the Bardesso Inn and Spa, wine country’s newest, greenest, grandest resort.
