Napa Valley's Prestigious Culinary Institute Now Offering Classes to the Public

Feb
12 2009

You may have heard of the Napa County landmark, The Culinary Institute of America, nestled amongst the local wineries in the wine country of Napa Valley. The institute has a long-standing reputation for excellence as one of a handful of world-class culinary schools. Until now its teachings were reserved for those heading into the professional world of food and wine. But the venerable institute will now be addressing the interests of the general public, outside of their degreed programs. The professional cooking college will now be offering up non-degree, two-hour cooking and wine education classes on the weekends.

There will be an array of mostly Saturday class offerings to satisfy the regional fare, type of food, or style of cooking that will be of interest to any food enthusiast, with offerings such as Street Foods of the Middle East and Hot Latin Cooking. The wine classes will utilize the school’s Rudd Center for Professional Wine Studies to expose students to viticulture, wine, grape varieties, regional significance, and instruction on food pairings and serving wine.

Those enrolled in the Saturday classes in the Napa Valley facility can choose to make reservations at the school’s Greystone Restaurant for lunch before classes or dinner after classes and enjoy not only the world-class food that comes from the facility, but also enjoy the camaraderie of fellow students partaking in the education. For those interested in a Sunday class, there is one that instructs on the parings of food with wine, with that two hour course costing ninety-five dollars.
