More Crops Quarantined in Napa County

Sonoma County Agriculture officials have confirmed the finding of three European Grapevine Moths in a Sonoma vineyard, which is the second moth finding so far this year. Late last year a large vineyard was the first to be quarantined due to an infestation of the moths and this new discovery will add additional land to the quarantine list. Wine country is preparing to brace itself for more news of a possible widespread infestation in coming months.

Cathy Neville, Sonoma County Agricultural Commissioner publicly declared 1,000 acres of farmland near Calistoga quarantined after the latest moth discovery. This large piece of land will be added to the already 162 square miles of Napa County land on the quarantined list and confirms that the moths have spread throughout the county. Agriculture officials are currently working on a swift eradication method that will save wine country farm land and crops.
