Opening night at the Santa Rosa Symphony will bring together its former and current music directors in a highly anticipated performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3. This will be the first time that pianist Jeffrey Kahane and Music Director Bruno Ferrandis perform together and it promises to be unforgettable. Ferrandis described the opening night in the following words: "If we are both on the same wavelength, and if the alchemy works... My God, we will make the theatre collapse."
Kahane, who conducted the Santa Rosa Symphony for a total of 10 years, has studied the "Rach 3" since the 1970's and has performed it many times since. He describes it as a "pianistic Everest" for pianists and stated that he was "honored and moved to be coming back to Santa Rosa to play this with my beloved colleagues in the orchestra and with Maestro Ferrandis."
The Santa Rosa Symphony season begins in October, ends in May, and includes seven subscription concert sets. It will feature a three-concert "Festival of Remembrance" chamber music series, and a three-concert choral series with works from Mozart's last year. Wine Country will ring with music this year and this first symphony event is one to remember. For more information about the Santa Rosa Symphony please visit www.santarosasymphony.com.
