Dry Creek Valley is located in the heart of Sonoma wine country. Situated 20 miles east of the Pacific Ocean and 70 miles north of San Francisco this area provides a temperate climate perfect for growing a diverse variety of grapes. The region's resemblance to the wine growing region of Bordeaux, France lends itself well to the 62 wineries producing a large array of varietals each year.
The Passport to Dry Creek Valley is a yearly event combining wine, food and music. This event was started in 1990 with 19 wineries participating and has grown to 45 participating wineries to date. Passport participants travel from all over the country to experience the Dry Creek Valley during Passport weekend held every year during the last weekend in April. During the two day event some wineries create a theme around the showcase of their wine. A few of the past themes included The Wizard of Oz, Mardi Gras and Hollywood. Almost every winery hosts live music from Blues to Jazz, there is no telling what theme or musical feature a visitor may have a chance to experience.
Unlike usual tastings, Passport tickets are limited to a specified number of participants which are drawn through a lottery. This allows for a more personal experience and a chance to speak with the winemakers and vineyard staff in person. This also gives the participant a chance to gain first hand knowledge about Sonoma Valley. This event is an intimate way to experience one of the hidden gems in Sonoma Valley.
