The small wine country town of Windsor, California has hosted the Hot Air Balloon Classic for the last 20 years and is getting ready to host the celebration of the 20th annual event this weekend. The Hot Air Balloon Classic is organized by a group of volunteers that is dedicated to raising money for local non-profits and celebrating the hot air balloon. This two day event will be held at Keiser Park in Windsor and is open to the public. Proceeds from the festival benefit Sonoma County Literacy Connection, Windsor Education Foundation and the Town of Windsor Non- Profit Fund.
The festival starts at 5am on Saturday morning with the Dawn Patrol. Balloon pilots use heat to fill their balloons before dawn and begin to launch the first balloons of the day at 5 am sharp. By 6:30am the remainder of the balloons will launch and Keiser Park will be overtaken by the colorful balloon filled morning sky. Keiser Park will open Saturday and Sunday at 6:30am where spectators can find an array of food, music and crafts vendors displaying and selling their goods. There are many ways the public can take part in this festival through volunteering, donating and attending. For more information regarding the festival please see schabc.org.
