Presidio, San Francisco

The new Walt Disney Family Museum will open its doors to the public October 1st, 2009. The museum is located in the Presidio of San Francisco at 104 Montgomery Street and is housed in two of the old army barracks built in the 1890's. Along with the old barrack buildings is a newly constructed 20,000 square foot glass and steel building which is occupied by a 100 seat theatre, a pavilion and classrooms for teaching digital animation and traditional art techniques.

The Walt Disney Family Museum was built to tell the creative life story of Walt Disney and will showcase early drawings, animation and the family history of the famous American icon. The museum will utilize Walt Disney's voice which will be used to narrate certain exhibits as well as show vintage footage of the cartoonist in action. There will also be an exhibit dedicated to the original plans for Both Disneyland, the world's first theme park, and EPCOT. Tickets may be purchased up to 60 days in advance and are not available for purchase at the door on the day of admission. The Walt Disney Family Museum is open Wednesday-Monday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Ticket prices range from $12.50 to $20.00 and more information about opening day and the museum can be found by visiting disney.go.com/disneyatoz/familymuseum.
