The renowned San Francisco Silent Film Festival has announced that Anita Monga, who previously served as its acting Artistic Director, has accepted the post of Artistic Director. Anita Monga is to replace former Artistic Director and Festival Co-founder Stephen Salmons, who left the position earlier this year.

Anita Monga is well qualified for the position, as she is the former programmer of the Castro Theatre, the current Director of Programming of SIFF Cinema in Seattle, and Co-Founder of the Noir City Festival. Additionally, Monga was a recipient of the SF Film Society's Mel Novikoff Award in 2005 and the Marlon Riggs in Award in 2004. The Silent Film Festival's Winter event is scheduled to take place on December 12th at the Castro Theatre. The Silent Film Festival is a nonprofit dedicated to celebrating the cultural value of silent film by searching for movie prints and pairing them with talented musicians.
