Seventh Annual San Francisco Zine Fest

Aug
28 2009

The seventh annual San Francisco Zine Fest is an event for independent and underground publishers, and also includes a host of non-traditional artists, crafters and DIY enthusiasts that showcase their work at the two-day event. The San Francisco Zine Fest was founded in 2002 by Jenn Wilson of Starfiend Distro, a not-for-profit independent distributor of Zines, books and comics. This year's event was organized by volunteers including Family Style, New Lights Press and Monkey Seal.

The Zine Fest was held in the San Francisco County Fair Building on 9th Avenue and Lincoln Way (see map below) in Golden Gate Park August 22nd and 23rd. The festival hosted over 100 small press and DIY creators who participate by selling, sharing and trading their work to an expected 1000 attendees. Along with the artist showcase are hands on workshops and discussions throughout the weekend. A few of the featured workshops included a nature journal class held in the adjoining San Francisco Botanical Garden, a book binding workshop and a silk screening workshop and demonstration.
