San Francisco's Nob Hill Masonic Center to Change Hands

The Nob Hill neighborhood in San Francisco is a well established neighborhood famous throughout the world for its city sightseeing attractions and Victorian era architecture. Some residents of Nob Hill would like the neighborhood to continue as a quiet hilltop community, although some city officials are considering giving a large concert promoter access to the 52-year-old Masonic Center. The residents of Nob Hill are not opposed to the change of management or events, they are more concerned about the amount of traffic traveling to and from the neighborhood.

The changes proposed are 70 concerts a year, a building renovation and an increase in theatre capacity from 3,282 to 3,500. City officials believe that the addition of a concert venue will increase city entertainment dollars. Live Nation, the interested concert promoter, has been searching for a mid-sized venue in San Francisco for two years and is willing to pay for a large portion of the $5 to $6 million dollar renovation.
