The 159th Annual Saint Patrick's Day Parade will be held Saturday, March 13th from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Joe Alioto Performing Arts Plaza outside of San Francisco City Hall. The parade began in San Francisco in 1851 as a small community event and has since become one of the most popular city traditions. The United Irish Society of San Francisco is responsible for organizing the events associated with Saint Patrick's Day and has been an integral part of the celebration for years.
Along with the lavish parade are multiple celebrations held at Irish pubs, restaurants and community halls. Thousands of city residents and out of town tourists are expected to participate this year. The parade will begin at the corner of Second and Harrison Streets and will continue on to City Hall where live music, food, novelty vendors and family activities will continue throughout the day. The festival begins March 13th and continues through March 14th, 2010.
