San Francisco's 141st Annual Italian Heritage Day Parade

Oct
01 2009
Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco

San Francisco will celebrate the city's oldest civic event and the nation's oldest Italian-American parade and celebration on Sunday October 11th at 12:30 pm. The parade was established in San Francisco in 1868 as a community event which highlights the region's Italian-American residents. A few of the parade features include handcrafted floats sponsored by Bay Area businesses, community groups and Italian organizations. Local high school marching bands will also take part in the parade.

The parade route begins at the foot of Jefferson and Stockton Streets near Fisherman's Wharf and winds its way south through North Beach along Columbus Avenue and ends in Washington Square in front of Saints Peter and Paul Church. During the parade North Beach restaurants and cafes will celebrate with open-air dining providing the public plenty of parade viewing as well as Italian food and wine specials. Parade viewers will also have the chance to experience live performances by a variety of traditional Italian musicians. Please see www.sfcolumbusday.org for more information about the parade and festivities.
