San Francisco Granted $35 million for City Projects

Mar
20 2009

San Francisco’s Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, succeeded in carving off roughly $35 million from the recently passed Federal Spending Bill of more than $400 billion. The city’s money will go to a host of projects, some to bolster the health of the city’s infrastructure, others to address more aesthetic concerns, or sightseeing attractions, maintaining the destinations for all of the San Francisco tours which are a vital contributor in the economic web of the city.

Some of the infrastructure projects which can be addressed with the federal funding are things such as the southern entrance to the iconic Golden Gate Bridge which requires seismic retrofitting, as well as rebuilding of the downtown Trans-Bay Terminal which is a transportation hub, which will likely house high-speed rail service at which point that becomes a reality.

The popular tourist destination, Angel Island, which sits in the San Francisco Bay just off of Alcatraz, will get funding to refurbish its immigration facility and there will be money to keep the San Francisco Bay waters and shores beautiful.

Healthcare facilities and programs will see significant benefit from the package, possibly due to a causal link resulting from President Obama favorable assessment of the Healthy San Francisco healthcare program, viewing it as a possible model for the nation.
