San Francisco Bike Tourism May Increase In The Future

Dec
09 2009

San Francisco currently has over 45 miles of designated bike lanes throughout the city and will add six more miles over the next six months. The newly painted bike lanes have been painted a different color for better visibility and are striped to ensure motorists can distinguish between bicycle lanes and traffic lanes. Along with the new bike lanes the city will install many new bicycle racks and change traffic signal timing to allow bicyclists extra time to pass through intersections. The updates and additions to the city wide bicycle plan will benefit both city residents and tourists.

These changes will create a much faster and safer commute for San Francisco's large number of resident bicycle enthusiasts. The increased number of bicycle paths, plus the traffic signal timing change, will give commuters safer bicycling options. San Francisco tourism has seen a large spike in bicycle rentals over the last several years and this number is likely to increase due to the addition of safety measures by the city. City officials recently stated that they are committed to increasing the number of bicycle commuters and tourists in San Francisco by creating a more inviting and safe city wide bike plan.
