San Francisco has seen its share of television shows shot here over the years, with “The Streets of San Francisco” being the most successful and the best know. But the most recent, “Nash Bridges”, ceased production more than eight years ago, leaving the city primed for a return to the small screen. This week news came down from the mayor’s office that in-fact a new show will be making its pilot here later this month, with the hope that if the show gets picked-up by the network, production will remain in the city for the duration of the show’s run.
The show, currently titled “Trauma”, will be an action driven drama focused on the working lives of paramedics as they attempt to save lives in trying situations. The pilot shoot will be based on Treasure Island beginning at the end of March and then run for four weeks, pumping upward of seven million dollars into the local economy. Of course, the real hope is that beyond the pilot episode, the show will also be shot here and that it will be a success with a multi-season production run. This would provide roughly three hundred and forty crew jobs for a production of this size, as well as require city services, pay the city taxes, and utilize a multitude of local business goods and services. Beyond the obvious economic injection due to the production’s needs, a show’s popularity can help drive interest and tourism, and for a city which depends so heavily upon such for its economy, “Trauma” could add to the list of sightseeing attractions for the San Francisco tours to add to their roster.
