New Map of Redwood Highway

Sep
01 2009

The Northcoast Tourism Council which includes Humboldt, Del Norte, Marin, Lake, Sonoma and Mendocino counties has debuted a new map of Northern California highlighting some of the area's most notable sight seeing attractions. The map's route begins about one hours distance from San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge and runs along the historic Redwood Highway. The attractions included on the map include roads, routes, attractions, visitor's centers and resources essential to experiencing Northern California while touring the Redwood Highway. The large scale map was created through the collaboration of several influential county representatives along with many ideas from businesses and tourism bureaus. The initial idea of creating a multiple county map dedicated to tourism was quite daunting to many of the collaborators, but the final result was well worth the effort.

This year also marks the 100-year anniversary of the Redwood Highway which is one of the last remaining and longest U.S. routes still active in the state. The highway is named after the coastal redwoods once seen growing along the route and throughout the Northern California coast. The new map will be displayed at visitor's centers, tourism bureaus and shared with thousands of tourists as they experience the adventure of Northern California.
