Aug
02 2009

Zeum is located in the Yerba Buena Gardens in a community-based, non-profit organization that emphasizes creation, collaboration and communication among youth and families. Zeum empowers and teaches youth to use art as a mean of communication and expression. In October 1998 Zeum opened its doors to the public as a part of the 87-acre urban renewal project sponsored by the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency in the SOMA neighborhood of San Francisco. Zeum's unique facility includes premier technology studios, interactive activity stations, exhibit galleries, community exhibit space, a 200-seat theater and the Zeum Carousel. Zeum is one of San Francisco's most popular, family friendly tourist attractions and hosts multiple family oriented events throughout the year.

The museum's newest gallery exhibit features youth artists from the East Oakland School of the Arts. The exhibit, Proof Positive, is a part of the museum's 'Spotlight on Youth Art' series which features young artist's thought-provoking work regarding current societal issues. This instillation illustrates how the critically-minded student's of the EOSA, encouraged by their art instructor, use art to enhance their standard curriculum. The students work expresses opinions related to politics, history, science, statistics and writing with an artistic approach, through the use of pastel drawings, silkscreen t-shirts, collages, podcasts, digital art and video. This educationally creative exhibit runs from July 24th to November 15th with a 'Meet the Artists' reception on September 17th from 6:00pm-8:00pm.
