Extranomical Tours is introducing a new tour, called “The Best San Francisco Taco Tour”, which made its debut on Tuesday, April 28th, 2009. This tour is the second in a culinary series of tours, which aim to find the best eateries in San Francisco. The first tour in the series, “The Best San Francisco Pizza Tour”, was a huge success, so Extranomical is sure that taco tasting will prove equally as fun and tasty. “The Best San Francisco Taco Tour” visits 4 different taquerias in the famous Mission district of San Francisco. At each taqueria, participants can get a taste of one of the taqueria’s specialty tacos. Each taqueria was carefully selected for its authenticity and overall taste by the president of Extranomical, Mexican born Rodrigo Enriquez. His goal is to introduce people to something they may not discover on their own and to invite people to join his tour for an absolutely authentic experience. The four taquerias that this tour visited were La Taqueria, Pancho Villa, Los Coyotes, and Taqueria Vallarta. By the end of the tour, everyone was very full and very happy. The simplicity of an authentic Mexican taco is what truly stands out from its American counterpart. In Mexico, the small, warm tortilla simply needs a blanket of tender marinated meat, onions, cilantro, and salsa. At the first taste, it’s easy to see why these tacos are so popular and hard to understand why anyone would change this tasty formula.
Enriquez is attempting to branch out of the stereotypical mold of what a tour should be and is always finding new ways of providing a rewarding experience for people that they will remember for a long time. More than just a culinary tour, “The Best San Francisco Taco Tour” aims to also be a cultural tour. This tour visits the heart of the Mission district of San Francisco, which has the largest Latino population in San Francisco. As soon as you enter this colorful neighborhood, you know you’ve entered a whole new world. What immediately stands out are the vibrant colors of the neighborhood, very reminiscent of many Mexican towns. It’s also hard to miss the many giant and colorful murals that cover the buildings. The Mission is, of course, a very historic area of San Francisco and houses the oldest intact Mission in California, the “Mission Dolores”, which is also the oldest building in San Francisco. So, while this tour is primarily a food tour, its participants will gain much more from the experience than just taco tasting. At its debut, there was even an impromptu tour of the Mission, led by an aficionado on the subject by an employee of the San Francisco Visitor Center. Extranomical’s next upcoming food tour will be “The Best San Francisco Sushi Tour”, which is sure to be a great time for all.
