After being closed for nearly a week, the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge, has reopened for commuters. The bridge, which was closed following the collapse of a steel beam and two tie rods that fell onto oncoming traffic, was reopened shortly after 9am on Monday morning. California Highway Patrol cars led the first cars across the bridge as a precautionary measure.
Bart Ney, spokesman for Caltrans, stated that tests conducted overnight and this morning on an altered version of the original repair job showed that the repairs were successful. The bridge is now open and will be monitored closely by Caltrans. For more information regarding the Bay Bridge reopening please visit baybridgeinfo.org.
