Located in Golden Gate Park the de Young Museum is one of San Francisco's most popular tourists attractions. The museum offers visitors a chance to experience art from many different cultures throughout the world while learning about distant lands, interesting traditions and different societies. The de Young Museum was founded in 1895 and was recently re-designed in 2005 with the intention to incorporate art, nature and architecture. Each year the de Young Museum hosts a variety of exhibitions from Ancient Inuit art to contemporary photography.
One of the current exhibitions at the de Young Museum is the 'Art and Power of the Central Savannah', an exhibition of over 60 sculptures created by several Central African cultures. The sculptures are primarily carved from wood and represent vessels for magical organic ingredients and serve both political and religious purposes. This amazing exhibition will disband after this third and final showing which commences October 11, 2009. General admission to the de Young Museum ranges in price from $7.75 for youth, $8.75 for seniors and $11.75 for adults. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday 9:30 am to 5:15 pm.
