After the initial success of last year's Sunday Street's events San Francisco has decided to expand the outdoor community event adding more dates and including more neighborhoods. Last year's handful of events was the first year San Francisco hosted a city wide celebration of health, fitness and community. The event is modeled after a 30 year old program in Bogota, Columbia and similar events have had success in locations such as Japan and the Ukraine.
This year's Sunday Streets introduces several new neighborhoods including Bayview, Civic Center and Western Addition. Along with the new locations are more dates beginning in March and concluding in October. During Sunday Streets city streets in the designated neighborhoods will be closed to vehicular traffic from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and open to pedestrians, bicyclists and other non-motorized activities. Participants are also invited to join groups located along the event route such as yoga and fitness clinics, children's art activities and community related groups. Sunday Streets is a great opportunity for out of town tourists to enjoy a unique San Francisco event.
