The San Francisco International Arts Festival (SFIAF) will be celebrating its 6th year of showcasing some of the world's most well known dance, film, music and theatre minds. The festival is held in multiple venues throughout the city and has a two week running time from May 20th-May 31st. The SFIAF believes in community collaboration to promote the arts within San Francisco and collaborates with small and large organizations to create an 11 day world arts and music celebration. Attending this years festival will be 14 Bay Area based companies along with several artists and organizations from around the world.
This year SFIAF has the pleasure to be the only U.S. city to host internationally acclaimed companies Sasha Waltz and Guests of Germany, the Akhe Group from Russia and Ranferi Aguilar and Los Hacedores de Lluvia. Along with these three internationally recognized acts will be the U.S. debut of the Cho-In Theatre from South Korea and up-and-coming sitar player Smita Nagdev from India. Some of the local ensembles and performers headlining the festival are Gamelan Sekar Jaya, Rova Saxophone Quartet and the Bond Street Theatre out of New York in collaboration with Exile Theatre of Kabul, Afganistan. The SFIAF also hosts a series of sneak previews and site specific shows in Union Square from 10am-5pm during the festival.
