San Francisco Arts Organizations Benefit From Stimulus Package

Jul

The National Endowment for the Arts has granted 37 San Francisco Arts Organizations stimulus funds totaling $1.5 million dollars. The funds have been awarded to both well known and up and coming groups who are part of the San Francisco arts scene. The San Francisco Director of cultural affairs, Louis Cancel, made the announcement to an elated crowd early last week.

A few of the large, established organizations were the San Francisco Symphony, SFMOMA, SFJazz and the Asian Art Museum. Each of these arts organizations and a few others like them received grants in the amount of $50,000. Along with these organization, smaller organizations also were rewarded funds such as the National Film Preservation Foundation and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

Louis Cancel reiterated that fact that the stimulus funds benefit the city as well as the organizations. San Francisco's nonprofit arts organizations generate $1.3 billion dollars a year through tourism. The funds will allow the arts organization to continue employing San Franciscan's as well as generate revenue which is crucial to the city's economy.
