G'Day USA: SFO to Australia with Attractive Airfares

Jan
19 2009

For San Franciscans this is the time to get away and play tourist yourself and head to Australia. Since the country is in the southern hemisphere, our winter is their summer and our spring is their fall, so these next few months are the best if you factor the weather into your travel considerations. If you are also one to factor in the price – and there are far fewer who wouldn’t during the current recession, and you’ve been considering heading to Australia from San Francisco’s San Francisco International Airport, Quantas Airlines has a special airfare deal if you purchase your tickets before January 26th 2009.

In celebration of their new fleet of Airbus A-380 airplanes, Quantas Airlines is offering the San Francisco to Australia route for $380 each way and passengers can choose to fly directly from SFO into Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane. The specially priced fares are for flights between February 1st and September 21st and are part of Australia’s tourism promotion called “G’Day U.S.A.” intended to attract American visitors. Festivities were held last week with Quantas Airlines, the State of California, and San Francisco in celebration of the first commercial flight of the new Airbus A-380 into San Francisco’s San Francisco International Airport (SFO). The plane is notable for its size, efficiency and comfort, offering the widest cabin currently available for passengers, and a double-deck layout carrying four hundred and fifty passengers between four classes of travelers.

Australia is one of only a small number of countries where the U.S. dollar is still strong – roughly $1.50 AUS, so Australia is keen to encourage tourism coming from San Francisco so that Americans can take advantage of the current favorable exchange rate.
