San Francisco Bay beaches have earned outstanding marks in water quality according to Heal the Bay, a Santa Monica based group focused on monitoring the health levels of California beaches. Many sun and water loving people will have nothing to fear when it comes to healthy water conditions in the Bay Area. Most beaches in the local area received A or A+ marks from Heal the Bay which equates to excellent overall water quality. According to a Heal the Bay spokesperson the worst water conditions are during and after rainy weather conditions. The cleanliness of water decreases during this time due to the toxic runoff that spills into the ocean by way of storm drains which collect water runoff from the street.
Luckily for residents and tourists in San Francisco many of the local beaches were part of a group of 75 state beaches that were placed on the clean water 'honor roll.' These beaches include San Francisco's Crissy Field Beach West, Montara State Beach at Martini Creek in San Mateo County and Natural Bridges State Beach in Santa Cruz. All three beaches were tested at peak beach season between April and October which is the most crucial time for water quality to be at its healthiest. The timing of such good news couldn't be better while both residents and tourists gear up for a long anticipated summer at the beach.
