The waiting has begun. Two dozen of the top big wave surfers in the world have been searching the Pacific off Sail Rock in Half Moon Bay looking for The Big One, a massive swell forming out to sea that this week could mark the beginning of the 10th annual invitation only 2009/2010 Maverick's Surf Contest ©.

Once sighted and every one agrees, the clock will start counting down the 24 hours before the Contest officially begins. It could happen as early as this Tuesday. You can find out exactly when at www.maverickssurf.com.

The website has a live web cam so you can watch the surf yourself 24/7 and don't worry if you can't make it down the coast when the Contest kicks off. The folks at Maverick's will beam a live satellite feed to the 110' by 31' electronic score board at San Francisco's AT&T Park.
