Winter Solstice at Muir Woods

Muir Woods National Monument is located just north of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. Muir Woods is situated on the rocky shores of the Pacific Ocean and home to the majestic coast redwood. Visitors to Muir Woods can enjoy incredible views of the Pacific Coast, a walk through an ancient redwood forest and abundant wildlife. Muir Woods also offers educational programs and events that coincide with certain times of the year.

This month the Winter Solstice, or the longest night of the year, will be celebrated among the Muir Woods redwoods. This family friendly event will take place December 21st from 3:00pm to 8:00pm. The program will begin at the Visitor Center and include the making of solstice crowns, a stage performance of songs, stories, puppetry and walking the trails of Muir Woods lit by luminaria. This event is free and open to the public. For more information please see www.nps.gov/muwo.
