  • The Clothespin Tree, Yosemite National Park

    Clothespin Tree

The Clothespin Tree named for its characteristic shape is located in the Mariposa Grove; the tree has survived numerous fires which have naturally hollowed a tunnel through the base of the trunk. Although there are many trees within Yosemite that have this characteristic shape, what makes Clothespin Tree unique, is that it stands 40 feet in height with the hollowed tunnel now big enough for a car to pass through. But size is deceptive here, so walk up and stand in the opening.
