Muir Woods & Wine Country Two Day Tour Description

Our Muir Woods & Wine Country Two-Day Tour combines a relaxing walk through the tallest trees in the world. THe Wine Country tour makes 3 tasting stops: 2 wineries and 1 at the historic Sonoma or Healdsburg Plaza spending 45 minutes to 1 hour at each location in California’s World Famous Wine Country and an overnight stay in the heart of Sonoma Valley . This great getaway is only an hour away from San Francisco and we make all the plans for you!

On the first day, we will drive you past the Marin Headlands where we take a short detour into a beautiful valley filled with Coastal Redwood Sequoia trees for our first stop, at Muir Woods National Monument. You will have about one hour to stroll around the woods before we have to make our way back to the main highway to head north again. On the way to Sonoma your friendly guide will give a little wine country knowledge about the historic Sonoma Valley and Carneros Regions. Soon after, you will arrive at your first winery stop and spend up to 1 hour at the winery where you will get a complimentary tasting of a variety of California Wines. Or if you prefer, just stroll the grounds and take some pictures among the vines.

Next stop is the lunch at Sonoma Plaza. This is also the end of the first half of the tour. Enjoy the rest of the day on your own by doing some window shopping or enjoying one more wine at some of the wine tasting rooms in Sonoma.

Your hotel for the night is the Best Western Sonoma Valley Inn and is located just one block from the historic Sonoma Plaza and only 20 minutes from Napa Valley. All rooms have been recently redecorated and most of them have private balcony or patio, fireplace and access to the garden courtyard. Enjoy special amenities like continental breakfast delivered to your door, free fitness center, outdoor swimming pool, and hot tub and steam room. The Best Western’s rooms are all equipped with TV, phone with voice mail, hair dryer, coffeemaker, free newspaper, and much more.

On the second day, you have the morning to yourself to enjoy some of the amenities at the hotel or just sleep in! The hotel shuttle will drop you back at the plaza where you will meet back with group and visit two other wineries in the afternoon and enjoy more wine tasting. On the way back to San Francisco, we’ll also drive through the little town of Sausalito, home to many sailboats, and hundreds of floating houses, and a beautiful view of the Bay and San Francisco.

Lastly, we’ll make our way back to the Golden Gate Bridge and make our final stop on the tour at the Marin Headland high above the Golden Gate Bridge. This tour is ideal for both the wine tasting novice and the more experienced connoisseur with a rack full of fine wines, and who also will appreciate the wonders of nature in the Redwood forest.

Day One - Times Approximate

8:00 - 9:00 AM	Pick-up for your Wine Country tour at your San Francisco hotel in downtown or Fisherman's Wharf area.
9:00 - 9:15 AM	Drive through the Marina neighborhood, past the Palace of Fine Arts, the Presidio, and head north across the Golden Gate Bridge. Continue north through the Marin Headlands to Sausalito. Pick-up at Sausalito hotels if necessary.
9:15 - 9:30 AM	Listen to the story of the Redwoods while driving over the headlands into Redwood Valley to Muir Woods National Monument.
9:30 - 10:30 AM	Muir Woods walk. Spend an hour in the shadow of 250 foot Redwoods, admiring the ferns and moss lining Redwood Creek, breathe in the fresh Bay (Laurel Tree) Leave scented air, and cross the creek on one of 3 footbridges, and return by way of the gift shop and snack bar.
10:30 - 11:30 AM	Head north on U.S. 101 to the first winery stop in the Carneros Region of Sonoma County, the birthplace of California's wine industry.
11:30 - 12:15 PM	Arrive at your first winery stop and enjoy complimentary tasting a variety of California Wines. Or just stroll the grounds and take some pictures among the vines.
12:30 - 1:30 PM	Drive to the lunch stop in downtown Sonoma, in the heart of Sonoma Valley. Buy a lunch (or bring a bag lunch) and enjoy the sights and do a little window shopping after lunch.
2:00 - 5:00 PM	Enjoy the rest of the day on your with another wine at one of various wine tasting rooms or just have some free cheese tasting at the Cheese Factory at Sonoma Plaza. Check in your hotel, drop off your bags and relax the afternoon at the hotel pool or just take walk and explore the area.
Evening	You can stay out late, because you don’t have to commute. Stores and restaurants are open “late”, but check times to make sure. Get a good night’s sleep so you can start refreshed in the next day.

8:00 - 9:00 AM	Start the day with a delicious breakfast at your hotel.
9:00 AM - 1:00 PM	Check your bags at your the hotel and spend the morning on your own. This is a good day to do some shopping at Sonoma Plaza, or just rent a bike and explore beautiful Sonoma Wine Country.
1:00 - 1:30 PM	Gather your bags from the hotel and meet your new friends and new driver. IMPORTANT: CALL US TOLL-FREE AT 1-866-231-3752 TO CONFIRM PICK-UP TIME AND PLACE! THIS IS IMPORTANT, BECAUSE WE HAVE SET UP APPOINTMENTS.
2:00 - 4:00 PM	Continue the second day of your Wine Country Tour and enjoy the views of the surrounding hills
4:00 - 5:00 PM	Start the return and head back South to Marin County and San Francisco, taking a little detour through the quaint town of Sausalito. (*Optional Ferry return to SF -Fare not included)
5:00 - 5:15 PM	Top off a great day with a photo stop high above the water, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and Pacific Ocean with an amazing view of the San Francisco Bay, the City, the Bay Bridge, the East Bay Hills and Alcatraz Island.
5:15 - 5:30 PM	Drive back across the Golden Gate Bridge and get dropped-off at your hotel in San Francisco.

Vehicle Safety Inspection: Safety is paramount in our industry and one of the biggest safety components in the tours we provide are our vehicles. Extranomical's fleet includes vans and mini-buses. Our vehicles are inspected constantly; first in the morning when the tour guide begins his/her day; second throughout the day the tour guide is verifying fluid levels, tire pressure and the general operation of the vehicle is monitored throughout the day. The vehicles are also inspected regularly (at least every 10,000) miles by our vehicle maintenance staff and also by independent certified mechanics during their routine maintenance. If that were not all, we also go through a thorough inspection performed by the California Highway Patrol once a year.
