San Francisco Tours Extranomical Midweek Special

Frank

FrankI recently retired from what I thought was my last career — until I saw this tour guide position offered. This was the kind of job I have always fantasized that I would love.  When the opportunity arose, I knew I had to give it a try.  I am glad I did. I am having a great time meeting people and showing them some great sights!

I am married with no children and am looking forward to extensive travel in my retirement.  Last May we spent a month in Italy and in February we will go to Thailand with Habitat for Humanity to build a house there.  Next winter we hope to go to New Zealand and Australia.  I want to be at the Sydney Bridge for New Year’s Eve.  In the past I have traveled to Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, Colombia, and Canada.  When I came to California from New York I drove stopping only in National Parks.
I have always enjoyed showing my friends my favorite places and we always have a great time making new discoveries.

I am originally from New Jersey and have lived in Africa (Zambia), Boston and Manhattan.  I came to San Francisco over 18 years ago.  In the past I have worked with people from all over the world, and I love meeting people from different cultures.   I feel my world is that much larger if I can say that I know someone from far away and different places.  Just this past week I met people from Japan, China, Holland, Germany and Minnesota—places I have yet to visit.

I have always enjoyed showing my friends my favorite places and we always have a great time making new discoveries.

I have been working with Extranomical since July ’07.  I have loved the Yosemite trip especially because the environment is different each time.  There is more or less water, different temperatures, the sky is constantly changing, and seeing the Park through different peoples’ eyes each time keeps me very engaged in the tour.

On each tour it seems I learn something new—either from the people on the tour or from where we go.  For example, I just learned that ladybugs hibernate! Did you know that? They do—right in Muir Woods.

Muir Woods is especially delightful early in the morning.  I love to arrive just after the park opens and there are few people there.  It is special to be one of the first to enter into the area and it is extremely quiet and peaceful.  On a recent trip one of the men proposed to his girlfriend in Muir Woods.  The entire group celebrated in each winery all day!

I want to be enthusiastic on each tour and make each one a new and unique experience.  So far it has been so.  I enjoy what I am doing and want my guests to have a very memorable trip.
